VAN ex MIDI, Steel rebuilt

Former MIDI railway company ordered 250 units of these vans, which were delivered between 1927 & 1929
They had wooden body and a watchtower.

201 of them were rebuilt between 1953 and 1959, the wooden body being replaced by a steel one.
Allocated to South-West and Mediterranean region of the SNCF, they were also engaged on the neighbour West and South-East regions.
At that time, the luggage service was a major activity. 1, 2 , 3 and even 4 vans could be seen in the long and heavy trains of this period.

Much appreciated, 10 of them were equipped with high power braking system, allowing an upgrade of their maximum speed till 150 kph. This variant was affected to "Le Capitole" train, from his creation in 1960 till 1967.

Their usage significantly decreased from 1975, when a lot of trains were allowed to run at 160kph. They went on in small express trains, and also in mail or luggage trains. The last ones were decommissioned in 1987.

VAN 3 axles ex PLM, Steel rebuilt

From former vans of "Paris a Lyon et à la Méditerranée" railroad, the SNCF rebuilt 277 units with steel body between 1952 and 1962.
Allocated to South-East and Mediterranean region, they were assigned in all type of trains. They were decommissioned in 1978.
